Diriyah is where the Saudi story begins β the original seat of the Al Saud family, founded in the 15th century on the banks of Wadi Hanifah. Its mud-brick citadel, At-Turaif, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the finest examples of Najdi architecture anywhere.
The restored district now pairs museums and galleries with Bujairi Terrace, a dining quarter overlooking the illuminated ruins β one of the most atmospheric evenings in the Kingdom.
Diriyah is 20 minutes from central Riyadh and works perfectly as a half-day or evening trip. Come late afternoon, tour At-Turaif before sunset, then stay for dinner as the walls light up.
