πŸ§• Dress Code & Etiquette in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has relaxed dramatically, but modest dress remains the norm in public. Women are no longer required to wear the abaya or headscarf β€” loose clothing covering shoulders and knees is appropriate everywhere except holy sites, where more conservative dress applies. Men should avoid shorts in formal settings; everywhere else, smart casual works.

A few courtesies matter: accept Arabic coffee and dates when offered, use your right hand for eating and greeting, and ask before photographing people β€” especially women. Public displays of affection are frowned upon.

During prayer times some shops close briefly; treat it as a chance to pause with a coffee rather than an inconvenience. Alcohol is prohibited nationwide β€” do not attempt to bring any into the country.
